Synopsis:
The story starts with a huge storm causing a large flood in Scotland and heading down Britain's coastline on course for Breeching London's flood defences. As the devastation of such unprecedented flooding starts to take effect, several characters try to not only survive the massive flood waters, but to also co-ordinate a rescue effort for the whole of central London.
David Suchet plays the Deputy Prime minister who works closely with Joanne Whally to co-ordinate a mass evacuation of London, whilst Robert Carlyle and his father Tom Courtenay play academic engineers trying to devise a plan to reduce the flood waters.
The CGI effects are patchy, at times very impressive (Arial shots of London after the floods have hit are great) to poor (some of the initial surge could have been more polished), but some of the practical effects of streets, buildings, the underground and an enclosed car park flooding are well staged.
It's also a nice change to see a disaster film set in England, and thus managing to side step the usual flag waving, macho over heroics of other movies in this genre.
Despite lacking the type of budget thrown at your average Hollywood blockbusters, this film manages to deliver a good disaster story with a good cast, lots of water based action and a certain amount of believability.
